TravelMole readers are being invited to enter a competition to win tickets to a special 50th anniversary European tour by the Stax Music Academy next month.

Three pairs of tickets are up for grabs for shows in Manchester, London and Milton Keynes. Just answer the question at the end of this report.

Running from July 8-22 and covering England, France and Ireland, the tour is being partly sponsored by the Memphis Convention and Visitors Bureau and the Tennessee Department of Tourist Development.

It will follow in the footsteps of the first ever tour, back in 1967, with music by Otis Redding, Sam & Dave, Carla Thomas, Eddie Floyd, Arthur Conley, Booker T. & the MGs and more.

The Stax Music Academy teaches students the art form of American soul music and the sound that was created in Memphis during the 1960s and 1970s.

The majority of the students live at or below the poverty line and attend thanks to scholarships from the Soulsville Foundation.

For many, the Stax Music Academy trips represent the first opportunity to travel beyond Memphis and are credited with boosting their confidence and self-esteem.

To enter our competition, answer the following question and email your answer to [email protected]:

Q. In 1967 Stax records sent its top artists on a first-ever tour of Europe. By what name did this legendary tour become known?
